THE SELECTION OF A CEMETERY

The purchase of a cemetery lot is an important family responsibility. There are two general types of cemeteries:

1)      The first is the traditional monument cemetery, where most American families have purchased their lots. Over the years the history of your family and others in your community is written on these monuments.

2)      The second is the non-monument cemetery in which, ordinarily the only memorial allowed is a marker set flush with the ground for identification purposes.

Many cemeteries contain both monument and marker sections, and some also have garden crypts and mausoleum entombment.

In general, you should select a cemetery that;

a)      Offers you a choice of attractive lots at prices you can afford and which include proper care.

b)      Is a community institution ably operated by local management and directed by people you know and respect.

c)      Is conveniently located and easily accessible.

d)      Offers you the privilege of erecting a personalized family monument of your choice.

INFORMATION YOU SHOULD PROVIDE YOUR FAMILY

            It is important to provide your family and relatives with certain essential information about your cemetery  lot, its size and location; who is to be interred in it, in which graves; and the location of the memorial.

            Printing and filling out the "Printable Plot Form" will help you provide necessary information  and a permanent record for your family. Consult your  memorialist, cemetery official and funeral director. All will be glad to assist you.

            Do not leave these important decisions to others, and don’t put them off. Failure to settle these questions now may easily result in costly mistakes and misunderstandings later.
